As abelhas são importantes polinizadores de plantas, e as espécies estão diretamente envolvido na manutenção da diversidade vegetal e na produção agrícola. No entanto, um fenômeno chamado "Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD)", entendida como a diminuição ou perda de colônias de abelhas foi detectado pela primeira vez nos EUA (1995). Condições semelhantes foram encontrados na Europa, América do Sul (incluindo o Brasil) e em outros continentes. Possíveis causas do CCD incluem o uso de pesticidas, fungos, parasitas, vírus ou outros fatores.
Pensando nisso, algumas associações ligadas à produção de mel, produtores rurais e de estudos de abelhas lançaram o manifesto "Bee or not to be". Assinar o manifesto é uma boa maneira de fazer as nossas autoridades cientes do problema e estimular políticas públicas de pesquisa focada nas causas da CCD.

However, a phenom called "Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD)", understood as the decrease or loss of bee colonies was detected for the first time in USA (1995). Similar conditions have been found in Europe, South America (including Brazil) and in other continents. Possible causes of CCD include use of pesticides, fungi, pests, viruses or other factors.
Thinking on it, some associations linked to honey and crop production and bee studies have released the manifest "Bee or not to be". Signing the manifest is a good way to make our authorities aware to the problem and estimulate public policies focused in research the causes of CCD.
