Thanks to the Facebook page Detweb, which specializes in plant identification, it was possible to establish contact with researcher Idimá Costa and learn about a new species of the Conchocarpus, family Rutaceae (the orange family), a shrub from the understory of the forest with purple flowers, known only from the Atlantic Forest of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The plant was named Conchocarpus hendrixii, after the great American composer and guitarist Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970), in a direct reference to his famous song Purple Haze.

The plant was named Conchocarpus hendrixii, after the great American composer and guitarist Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970), in a direct reference to his famous song Purple Haze.
One of Hendrix's most famous images is his guitar on fire at his 1967 show at the Monterey Festival (California, USA). In these days, with global concerns on forest destruction by burning on the agenda, how about turning Hendrix's guitar fire on a plant growing with purple flowers? All wrapped in a "Purple Haze", in a fantastic rereading designed by one of the authors of the article, Heloísa Maeoka.

Graças à página do Facebook Detweb, especializada em identificação de plantas, foi possível estabelecer contato com a pesquisadora Idima Costa e conhecer uma nova espécie do Conchocarpus, família Rutaceae (a família laranja), um arbusto do sub-bosque com flores roxas, conhecidas apenas pela Mata Atlântica do estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. A planta recebeu o nome de Conchocarpus hendrixii, em homenagem ao grande compositor e guitarrista americano Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970), em referência direta à sua famosa música Purple Haze.
Uma das imagens mais famosas de Hendrix é sua guitarra pegando fogo em seu show de 1967 no Monterey Festival (Califórnia, EUA). Atualmente, com preocupações globais sobre a destruição de florestas por queimadas, está em pauta, que tal transformar o fogo da guitarra de Hendrix em uma planta crescenco com flores roxas? Tudo envolto em um "Purple Haze", em uma releitura fantástica projetada por um dos autores do artigo, Heloísa Maeoka.
